Depression era baking

Note: next get-together for McMinnville Bakers Dozen will be Monday, Mar. 7, at 7 pm in the Red Fox Bakery. Our pate a choux pastries should be interesting and delicious!

Below is a nice video found by Sandy – and she added some memories, too. “My mother used to take pieces of the rising bread dough and fry them like tortillas when she had hungry kids hanging around the kitchen before the bread was ready. I had never even heard of pizza.”

I shared my memory with her of “an aunt whose Catholic family came from somewhere in middle Europe. She said her mother made Flour Soup and promoted it as a special treat for Friday night. She said she didn’t realize until decades later that that was all they had!”
